No Light Without Darkness

It’s with much grief and pain that we are going through a tough period of our lifetime. Many memes have been done for this global pandemic rooting from how it translates to 666 all the way to it being the sweet ‘Rona’ of some people. People have joked about it and others who experience it first-hand even cried of it. Overall, it is such a grave crisis and a new awakening for many. With economies shuttered and lives threatened i.e. population cut down. However, can’t we find any positivity out of this global pandemic? Let’s see

Humbled world super power economies
Corona virus disease may have gotten its Covid 19 status/name from the corona virus disease of 2019. Covid -19 thus has been on the lips of everyone even the young kids since January when it spread over other countries in Europe like wild fire and when its victims in its city of origin started dying like poisoned dogs. Within such a short time, it has spread all over the world going from a bad epidemic to a global pandemic. Counties badly hit are in the Europe and Asia continents – the developed world systems and economies. It’s just in last month that it was carried forward to the African countries and as we speak there are around five countries that record no positive cases in Africa. USA for instance has bowed down to ask for assistance for medical personnel from Africa and accepted donations from jack ma, same donations made to Kenya- a developing country. If that is not humbling enough, I do not know what is. I wonder how it could have been if it were the other way round. I.e. rooting from Africa to Europe.

Brought sanity
Imagine having to be taught the lessons of good grooming and manners 101 first hand starting from the president and managers to the preschool kids. Things like how to cough and sneeze, going for regular checkups when you feel some flu/cold rather than getting help over the counter. Lessons of hand washing with soap or just sanitizing when water is unavailable. Lessons of self-discipline especially in touching all over whenever. Lessons of embracing technology to work from home where need be. Most importantly, lessons of social distancing. Isn’t that healthy living and etiquette?

Slowed down life
Everything was on gear no one, running so fast I wonder where to. Talk of accelerating BBI campaigns, worlds schedules that have never been broken some even threatening to go ahead with, reluctant to postpone like in sports- the football premiers leagues and Olympics marathon just to name a few. Education sector was also on the run but have had to also slow down after schools shut down.

Families get together
Today, many will testify how they are finally sharing a table at dinner together as a family. The children never see the late-night-coming parents; neither do the early-rising-busy students see their parents as they leave for school. The curfew imposed in Kenya, has made this happen. Men who are fathers and husbands have had mandatory time with their families after having being forced by the government to be home by 7pm. With people having to work from home, clubs, restaurants, churches, brothels and other social places closed, and now the curfew, they have found no excuse to be home past the hour save for the few stubborn ones who fear responsibility and got no discipline.

Back to Eden
Covid 19 has proven us all wrong to civilization. It is robbing us of all junks and red meat for instance as one needs to have a strong immunity and boost this immunity even the more. It is simply calling us back to Eden where God gave us herbs, grains and fruits. Moreover, if you are in a position to have your kitchen garden, it will soon pay off a great deal especially with the looming lock down fears.

A time to seek god
Rome where pope –the universal church leader lives is in Italy, one of those countries badly hit. If the prime minister here could speak as he did, “we lost control of the epidemic. We died physically and mentally, we do not know what to do anymore. All solutions on earth have ended. The only solution is to the sky.” Then you know what that means. The Kenyan government was also quick to remember and call for a national prayer day, for “even the scientists need God”. Corona has indeed reminded us to seek the lord in prayer.

A time to reflect and meditate
With many going for self-quarantine, it is time to reflect and meditate. This is because best time to do so is when one is alone. When with people or around people, you are likely to mass think. It is different when alone. Thus, Covid -19 has brought with it time to sit down, reflect on where you have come from and meditate on the way forward- what the future holds.

A time to shine
The politicians had shone enough. News of them every day with political analysts every morning to give us a glimpse of what to make of the politicians’ arguments in their rallies. It’s now a phase for the medics. Who knew a PhD in washing hands would be anything until this Covid attacked? Who even thought there was such a class? Right now, world over, sanitizers and soap are the most sold something that was out of the norm, others are actually hearing and knowing of the sanitizers for the first time and only a few companies used to make but now, the market is almost flooding. This is a time for the little foxes to shine as wild fires. Others are taking advantage of the opportunities presenting themselves and making the liquid soaps as all the shops and markets and businesses…name it need them- it is a standard they have to meet, while others are going for the local face masks selling to the paranoid citizen.

A time to give back
Covid-19 | New Scientist
For the foundations, NGO’s and other popular society figures, it is a time to give back to the community. Foodstuffs and other grooming kits such as soap and water. Humanitarian agencies especially local ones are already doing a lot even just the campaigns and making the public aware of what the disease is all about and how to prevent it.

A time to rest
Yes, it is a time to rest. Many have already been laid off, others given compulsory leaves and others –well just feared for their lives and have gone back to the up country to rest. Some will tell you they have never had a time alone due to the pressures of their jobs and positions; corona however, has given them a chance to rest.

A time to stay home
Most importantly, it is a time to stay at home. This is the easiest and most effective way of breaking the Covid chain.

I know we are all tired with this Covid thing in both the mainstream media, social media and the lips of everyone. However, have you learnt anything positive from it? Please share in the comment section below.

  1. Yeah for sure. Many families were on the verge of dissolution but are now forced to quarantine and by all means try to resolve their differences.
The world was almost prepared for war(America,Russia and Iran, China) but they are engaged in forced collaboration to find a solution...thanks Mimah
