Covid -19 Myths

Covid -19 Myths

Corona virus disiese-2019 (Covid -19) came to the world as a big joke. Many spread so much propaganda about it until it reached in some of their neighborhoods. Right now, many of those who have not felt its sting are still living and spreading their heinous lies about the disease. Some of these fictions and myths are what we shall be looking into today.
Global number of new infections and deaths is scary as it is escalating by the day. Just imagine, in a span of a month, Covid 19 new cases moved from hundred thousand to 3million plus. Isn’t that scary?
Let’s start by brushing through the obvious facts…what corona virus is exactly.
Covid 19 is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (sars-co-2). It was first identified early December 2019 with the first case in Wuhan, China and has grown in its infections from an epidemic to a global pandemic. Its symptoms are close to those of a common flu i.e. fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, just to name a few.
It is spread between people during close contact through droplets produced by coughing, sneezing or talking. These droplets can also be infectious after falling on surfaces, as they don’t die down immediately.
It has no cure or vaccine so far, and developing one might take a while, however, people have recovered from it. How? you may be wondering. The standard of its diagnosis is simply treating the symptoms as they come. If fever is high for instance, one is given the antibiotics that can lessen or drop it. Other basic prevention procedures are keeping a reasonable social distance, wearing a three-ply mask especially when in public places, avoiding crowds, disinfecting surfaces, washing/sanitizing hands often, avoiding to touch mouth, eyes and nose (men). Covering your mouth while coughing or sneezing with disposable towels. And most importantly, staying at home and keeping visitors a bay-it’s the safest measure.

The Myths Unleashing
Coronavirus case numbers in the United States: APRIL 9 update ...
Among the many stories that have been said of this virus, is it Cannot survive hot climate areas such as in sub-Saharan Africa. In fact, even when it came in Kenya. Wajir people proudly said on national television that they believe it cannot reach their county because of its hot.
Fact: as much as we are told that the virus dies in hot sun rays…we are encouraged to keep our clothes out in the sun once we are from outside if we are not washing them, it doesn’t mean the hot climate is its remedy. If it were so, then it would not be in Africa. Right?
It’s a virus and hence can never heal from one who gets it. A victim lives with it forever just like the HIV victims.
Fact: people have recovered from this virus. This is not to mean re infections can’t happen.
Injection of dis infections to victims can cure the victims. Really? Didn’t someone go beyond this time with this? In the media? What a silly joke that was!

Fact: this is entirely humanly wrong. Disinfectants are done on surfaces, clothes, plants and other non-living things. Not possibly on humans.
Can be transmitted through skin to skin. One can get it through touch.
Fact: not directly so. The virus enters the body through membranes. I.e. the eyes, nose and mouth.
Alcohol drinking kills the virus. What? Why would the government burn clubbing then? Why wouldn’t it prescribe alcohol to those in isolation? Finally, why are the drunkards in quarantine, for testing positive?
Fact: alcohol based sanitizers and clean running water with soap does the magic. Have either of them at all times to be safe
Drinking lots of water flushes it out
Fact: water is good but it has not been proven to flush the virus out. Maybe it does as far as to the stomach
Can get it from your pet
Fact: it is only transmitted from human to human. So far, it has not been proven to be spread from animals to human or vice versa even though it’s believed to have first been spread through bat eating.
Our dark African melanin can protect us from the virus. It’s no wonder Africans had no prior stringed measures in place before it started spreading all over Africa.
Fact: melanin has no effect on Covid 19. If it did, it would not have spread as it is in Africa right now. Africa is actually at 37,000 plus new Covid cases as at now.
Corona virus is a death sentence
Fact: not at all, people are recovering from the virus disease
If you eat well you do not have to worry over the disease
Fact: Immunity is only an added advantage for people but not the ultimate solution. So, eat well, drink lots of water, do your daily exercises and rest but to these, add on the global health guidelines on how to protect yourself and your loved ones as discussed earlier.
I pray and hope that you will not be a victim.
Stay home, and be safe!
